    For us, Orford is home. It’s where the Pump Street bakery is located, our chocolate is made, and where we love hosting and welcoming visitors to our workshops.If you’re planning to spend a night or two in the village, there are a few places we’d recommend without hesitation.

    The Crown and Castle Hotel

    Located right near Orford Castle, the Crown and Castle was recently added to the Michelin Hotel Guide. It is an award-winning hotel that is also a 2 AA Rosette Restaurant and AA 5 Star Restaurant with Rooms. A perfect hideaway for gourmands, there are a selection of rooms to choose from including those in the main hotel, some with views of Orford Quay, as well as garden rooms, which come with a semi-private terrace. Rooms here start around £125 per night, depending on the season.

    • Dog-friendly: Yes, they have five dog-friendly garden rooms.
    • Family-friendly: Yes, however the age requirement for children is 8 years old.

    Our Favourite Bed and Breakfast in Orford

    The Wash House Studio

    For a stay unique to Orford, stay with Mike and Polly at The Wash House Studio. It is a stylishly converted Victorian Coastguards’ Wash House with a double bed, ensuite and glazed lobby area. There are French doors leading out onto your own pretty outside space. You also have use of the nearby Shepherd’s Hut. Stays are for a minimum of two nights and no pets are allowed.

    Pubs with Rooms in Orford 

    For a more casual stay, consider The Jolly Sailor or The King’s Head. Both pubs offer a friendly local vibe, and are in the centre of the village. Prices here can vary, but you’ll generally find rooms starting around £100-£150 per night and don’t tend to have minimum stays so you can book for just one night.

    Just steps from the quayside, The Jolly Sailor has 5 ensuite rooms, each with a character that feels connected to the 400 years of history in the building. In the winter, you’ll find a welcoming log fire downstairs in the pub area, and in warmer months, the beer garden offers a lovely spot to sit and enjoy views over the marshes.

    • Family-friendly: Yes (one room has a pull-out bed in addition to a double, so it can sleep up to four)

    The King’s Head

    The King’s Head Inn is right in the centre of Orford, with simple, traditional rooms. There are three rooms in total, each with an ensuite bathroom. One room has twin beds, while the other two are doubles. The building’s old, so expect sloping floors, low beams, and plenty of character.

    Best Campsite Near Orford:

    Brick Kiln Farm Camping

    For camping in the summer months (May – September) we recommend Brick Kiln Farm Camping, situated on the outskirts of the village of Campsea Ashe in unspoilt, quiet Suffolk countryside, surrounded by fields. The campsite has lovely flat grass pitches that are well marked out, and well maintained facilities. Please note, this is an adults only campsite so no under 18’s allowed. Book here.
